When children appear to struggle to grasp maths the temptation can be to reach to text books or give them more "formal maths" to work on - worksheets, pages of sums, etc.


Early confidence and competence in maths is achieved not through repetitive mathematical refrains or rote learning but by opportunities to investigate, manipulate and absorb number in the every day.
