Dyslexia Indicator Sessions
Our Dyslexia Indicator Sessions are designed for children in Year 3 and above where there are concerns around literacy, such as:
Reading, writing, or spelling
Speech or pronunciation of words
Memory and recall
Phonics
In the early stages of identifying a potential learning difficulty, the process can feel confusing and worrying for both parents and children. Children may begin to notice differences between themselves and their peers, which can affect confidence and self-esteem.
Your first step should always be to discuss your concerns with your child’s school. Our service is designed to support you, your child, and the school by helping to establish the extent to which dyslexic traits may be present, and how they may be creating barriers to learning.
What we will do
We offer an informal assessment lasting around two hours (completed either in one sitting or across three shorter sessions). Children are supported in a calm, relaxed environment and guided through a range of activities that assess:
Phonological awareness – recognising, hearing, and manipulating sounds in words
Working memory – holding and processing information (verbal, visual, and phonological), including sight-reading and following oral instructions
Rapid recall – retrieving words and sounds quickly and accurately
Decoding and grapheme recognition – understanding letter-sound relationships and recognising words
Throughout the process, our Dyslexia Specialist, Angela, will administer the tasks and make detailed observations. Her notes and assessments will highlight indicators of dyslexia and provide practical ideas to support your child both at home and at school.

What you will receive
Parents and carers will receive:
A clear breakdown of the assessment tasks and written report
An explanation of the results and what they may indicate
Practical recommendations for next steps and how to support your child
A telephone consultation follow up
Sessions will usually take place at our Ofsted Registered classroom in Altrincham but may also be arranged in schools or other suitable settings upon request. An additional travel fee may be applicable for sessions arranged off site.
